Poultry Plant Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is poultry plant management work covering all phases of
specialized farming activities on a poultry farm and feed mill.
An employee allocated to this class is responsible for
supervising the work of unskilled and skilled poultry workers.
Specialized duties are also performed in connection with poultry
research projects. Work is subject to administrative supervision
through inspections and review of results of work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and organizes the over-all operation of a poultry plant.
Supervises workers who feed, water, and otherwise care for
poultry, and clean poultry houses, pens, feeders, waterers,
boiler rooms, and sheds.
Maintains research records on mortality of poultry, feeding of
poultry, and other information on poultry.
Supervises the repair and painting of sheds, barns, and fences,
and milling, loading, and unloading of feed.
Assures the proper maintenance of proper lighting and heating
for poultry pens and incubators.
Locates markets for chickens and eggs.
Orders feed ingredients and tabulates feed prices.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
course work in Poultry Science or a related field; and
considerable experience in the operation of a large scale
poultry farm; or any equivalent combination of training and
experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the management of large scale poultry farm
operations.
Thorough knowledge of the feeding and care of poultry.
Thorough knowledge of the kinds and uses of poultry raising
supplies and equipment.
Ability to supervise mechanical and carpentry repairs to farm
equipment and buildings.
Ability to organize and direct the work of farm employees.
Ability to maintain complex records of a research nature in
production and test results. |
