SUMMARY

Highly responsible professional work within the Office for Sponsored Programs involved in approving the application for external funding at the university.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Identifies funding sources and analyzes the specific research areas and interests of faculty members to provide information regarding external funding opportunities; advises faculty regarding grantmanship.

Assists faculty and staff in proposal development and preparation by interpreting agency philosophy, policies, regulations and guidelines.

Review and approves all sponsored proposals for UGA and UGARF.

Supervises work of Grants Specialists.

Independently negotiates research and other contracts on behalf of UGA and UGARF.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of a Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred, with extensive experience in the area of grant/contract negotiations, preferably in the central research administration in an educational institution; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Extensive knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques used in grant preparation, coordination, and implementation.

Considerable knowledge of institutional policies and procedures pertaining to external funding.

Ability to participate in the evaluation and analyses of existing techniques and procedures and to assist in devising new techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university personnel, state and federal agencies and private organizations.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to supervise the work of others.

Ability to prepare and deliver informational lectures on subject matter.
