Office Machine Service Tech Duties
SUMMARY
This is highly skilled and technical work in the maintenance and
repair of one or more types of office machines such as
duplicating equipment, typewriters, adding machines,
calculators, and dictating equipment.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
annual inspection of office machines, repairing of office
machines, and cleaning of departmental machines and equipment
covered by maintenance agreements. Work also involves
instructing and training department employees in the proper use
of machines and equipment. Work is scheduled and performed in
accordance with terms agreed upon by contract or by emergency
calls. Work is performed with considerable independence under
general supervision of administrative superiors. Work is
reviewed for conformity with accepted standards of workmanship
and customer satisfaction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects and cleans equipment to insure maximum equipment
efficiency. Repairs and rebuilds equipment as necessary to
minimize equipment downtime.
Observes and instructs equipment operators in the proper use of
machines to achieve maximum production standards.
Makes service calls and whenever possible repairs the equipment
in the office rather than bringing it back to the shop.
Maintains accurate information as to repair parts and labor
expended on the equipment for cost accounting purposes.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school or from any
equipment manufacturer service school; and two years experience
servicing one or more categories of office equipment; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and
techniques used to maintain and repair a variety of office
equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the operating principles of the
equipment being maintained and serviced.
Ability to work from oral and written instructions, sketches,
and diagrams.
Ability to locate and diagnose defects in office equipment and
machines.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with
a wide variety of publics.
Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools in the repair
of office equipment.
