Grounds Keeper Duties
SUMMARY
This is field work in providing direct supervision over labor
crews engaged in routine grounds work.
Work involves responsibility for directly supervising and
occasionally participating in the work of labor crews engaged in
the care of campus grounds. Employees of these class have
responsibility for assuring that crews are promptly on the job
with the necessary tools and equipment. Specific work
assignments are received at the beginning of each day and
occasionally throughout the day as need arises. Work is reviewed
through regular inspectors and by observation of results
obtained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises labor crews engaged in grounds care activities such
as mowing lawns, gardening, landscaping, and cleaning grounds;
assures that laborers are transported to field sites and that
proper equipment and tools are available.
Confers with the assistant superintendent of grounds each
morning and frequently throughout the day on work progress and
new assignments.
Participates in grounds maintenance work: uses hand tools and
operates trucks, tractors, and mowers.
Supervises laborers engaged in such general tasks as moving
furniture and razing structures.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school and experience in grounds
maintenance work including some experience in a supervisory
capacity; or any equivalent combination of experience and
training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment
employed in the maintenance and care of grounds.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of trucks, tractors,
and lawn mowers.
Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions in general labor
and maintenance work.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Skill in demonstrating and teaching the use of tools and
equipment in grounds work. |
