Surveyor Duties
SUMMARY
Performs technical work in supervising a survey crew engaged in
engineering surveys.
This individual determines and records exact measurements of
grade and alignment and prepares sketches of preliminary
construction layouts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Determines utility locations.
Conducts as-built surveys.
Determines elevation, location, and size of points or areas with
transit and level.
Supervises the measurement of cross sections and records
topographic data.
Determines the grade and slope of existing or proposed
engineering sites, sidewalks, footings, retaining walls,
drainage ditches, paving, and related projects.
Determines property lines and locates underground utilities.
Handles survey work for special construction projects.
Scores concrete walkways; maps locations.
Performs trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic calculations.
Prepares detailed engineering sketches.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; 5 years of related experience
including supervisory or lead experience and considerable
knowledge of surveying or any equivalent combination of training
and experience. Excellent communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the principles of surveying.
Considerable knowledge of basic algebra, trigonometry, and plane
geometry.
Knowledge of the techniques and methods of surveying.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to plan and execute work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with others.
Knowledge of GIS and AutoCAD.
