Visitor Center Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in
managing the operation of a Visitors Center. Work involves the
administration of the facilities including rental reservations;
gift shop operations; setup for special educational, social, and
cultural events; scheduling of tours; and attending to the needs
of daily visitors.
An employee allocated to his class of work is responsible for
the overall supervision of clerical, custodial, and service
personnel. Work is performed in accordance with policies and
procedures but the employee exercises a considerable amount of
independent judgment in carrying out assigned duties and
responsibilities. Work is performed under the general direction
of an administrative superior and is reviewed through
observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises the reservation system for the Center facilities
including the booking, scheduling, confirmation and maintenance
of appropriate records.
Interview, recruit, assign and train new personnel including
volunteers for the information desk.
Plan and direct the setup for special events and attend to the
special equipment needs for rentals.
Manage the operation of the gift shop including buying
merchandise and maintaining all financial records.
Coordinate custodial service with Physical Plant and the
Botanical Garden grounds maintenance staff.
Coordinates food service activities with caterers and University
Food Service.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university in an
appropriate curriculum and experience related to this class of
work or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of facilities rental management principles
and practices.
Considerable knowledge of business management practices and
principles particularly retail sales.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working
relationship with university officials and the general public. |
