Assistant Pharmacy Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This is professional and supervisory work in the manufacturing,
compounding, packaging,, purchasing, and dispensing of drugs in
the University Health Center pharmacy.
Work involves the responsibility for supervising and
participating in the work of professional pharmacists and
pharmacy technicians in an assigned section of the pharmacy
including unit dose packaging, purchasing, and dispensing. Work
also involves establishing policies and procedures of the
assigned section, and supervising the maintenance o records, and
making reports as required by regulations. All work is performed
in accordance with established pharmaceutical and health center
principles, policies, and procedures, and is subject to review
by the Pharmacy Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, assigns, and participates in the work of professional and
technical subordinates in the pharmacy; establishes and
maintains policies section; establishes procedures for specialty
products compounded in the pharmacy.
Interprets, fills, and dispenses prescriptions in accordance
with the written directions of attending physicians;
manufactures, compounds, bottles or packages, and labels a
variety of drugs and solutions.
Purchases pharmacy supplies; supervises the taking of
inventories; prepares a variety of reports on warehouse
receiving activities, individual patient prescriptions dispensed
and bulk chemical preparation; maintains narcotic inventory.
Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns as well as
participates in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions
to meet Federal and State regulations.
Counsels patients on appropriate use of prescribed medication.
Supervises maintenance of cleanliness and order in pharmacy.
Assumes management of the pharmacy in the absence of the
Pharmacy Manager, when assigned, and assissts in the preparation
of the pharmacy's budget.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an approved school of pharmacy; considerable
experience in manufacturing, compounding, and preparing a wide
variety of pharmaceutical supplies and prescriptions in the
pharmacy, preferable supplemented by experience in a major area
of hospital pharmacy, and some supervisory experience; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
Candidates for this position must be registered as a pharmacist
by the Georgia Board of Pharmacy at the time of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of
professional pharmacy work.
Considerable knowledge of health center rules, regulations, and
practices as they relate to the compounding and dispensing of
drugs and prescriptions.
Ability to compound a wide variety of drugs and pharmaceutical
supplies.
Ability to maintain records of materials used and prescriptions
prepared, and to prepare reports.
Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of professional and
technical subordinates.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with superiors, subordinates, and the general
public.
Skill in compounding, preparing, and manufacturing a wide
variety of drugs, compounds, and other pharmaceutical supplies.
