Museum Shop Manager Duties
SUMMARY
Primarily responsible for the operation of the museum shop at
the Georgia Museum of Art, including
purchasing, processing (pricing, updating inventory,
displaying), accounts payable, supervision of student and
volunteer staff, sales.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
With guidance from the museum's curators, studies all GMOA
exhibitions and the pemlanent collection and purchases
educational, art-related merchandse in support of the mission of
GMOA:
Orders and receives inventory, processes, prices, displays all.
Prepares chedl requests for paymants to vendors.
Balances status reports.
Recruits. trains, schedules, and retains 15-20 volunteers to
work in the shop.
Maintains and analyzes all financial records relavant to the
shop's operation.
Studies ways to market the shop and increase museum attendance.
Attends weekly department head's meetings.
Greets and assists visitors to the museum and the shop.
Attends docent training.
Participates in regional and national meetings of Museum Store
Association.
Works with other members of the business office to ensure shop
is in compliance with UGA financial policies.
Attends merchendise market and works with vendors.
Works with other museum departments to ensure shop
enhances/complements other museum events.
Supervises student assistants.
Writes annual report.
Other duties as assigned.
May be required to work some nights and weekends.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Art, Business, or related
field with retail sales experience.
