Design and Production Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible publication and managerial work in
designing and producing scholarly books and promotional
materials.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible
for reviewing and approving the requirements for the design
of various publications. Work also involves checking and
approving various production phases of books and other
materials.
Work is performed under general direction of an
administrative superior and is reviewed through the
observation of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews requirements for the design of books and other
publications.
Prepares printing specifications.
Coordinates layouts, colors, type selection, and
illustrations.
Designs and coordinates promotional material and book
advertisements.
Coordinates and approves various phases of production.
Prepares manufacturing cost estimates on manuscripts.
Plans and schedules the work of the production staff.
May edit manuscripts concerning proposed methods of
presentation and make recommendations to reduce production
costs.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with
major course work in an appropriate curriculum and
considerable experience related to this class of work; or
any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of typography.
Considerable knowledge of graphics design and art.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relations with clients and fellow employees.
