Marine Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible supervisory work in the operation and
maintenance of boats, buildings, and marine equipment at the
Marine Institute.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
supervision and participating in the repair, maintenance, and
operation of sea-going vessels, smaller in-board and out-board
craft, and related marine equipment. Work is performed under
general direction of an administrative superior and is reviewed
through inspection and conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and participates in the maintenance and operation of
sea-going vessels.
Inspects maintenance and repair work to insure procedures and
materials comply with specifications.
Recommends modifications and changes.
Maintains preventive maintenance programs for marine equipment
and vessels.
Consults with research personnel in the design of marine
equipment.
Requisitions supplies and materials for maintenance and repair
work.
Maintains appropriate records and prepares various operating
reports.
Operates sea-going vessels.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited vocational school in an
appropriate curriculum and considerable experience in the
operation and maintenance of commercial, military, or large
private marine vessels and possession of an appropriate United
States Coast Guard Pilot's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of marine maintenance and repair.
Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of
diesel and gas engines, pumps, compressors, generators, and
auxiliary equipment common to marine vessels.
Considerable knowledge of coast piloting and navigation.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical problems.
Ability to supervise the work of others. |
