Research Statistician Duties
SUMMARY
This is professional and technical work involved in providing
statistical and computer services in support of a research
project.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
consulting with faculty regarding statistical and computer
service needs, administering the operation of the data
processing system, and providing technical assistance in the
area of computer applications. Duties are performed under the
general direction of an administrative superior.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consults with faculty concerning statistical and computer
services and experimental designs in research projects.
Provides technical assistance in computer programming
applications.
Determines appropriate statistical procedures for the analysis
of research data.
Determines computer application requirements for statistical
analyses.
Executes programs on computer systems, interprets results.
Supervises and coordinates work activities of support staff
involved in providing statistical and computer services.
Maintains computer usage records.
Provides expertise in the creation, maintenance, updating, and
retrieval of information for large data base files.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with
undergraduate degree in computer science or related field,
graduate degree in statistics or related field, and considerable
experience related to this class of work; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of computer software systems,
programming, and statistical analysis.
Thorough knowledge of one or more major high level programming
language.
Ability to determine appropriate experimental design/statistical
analysis combinations.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of technical
personnel.
Ability to deal effectively and efficiently with a wide variety
of user hardware and software problems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
