International Education Professional Duties
SUMMARY
The person in this position must be able to interpret and
implement program procedures and policies; counsel students by
providing technical guidance and problem resolution for programs
including faculty-led study abroad, exchange, affiliate and
consortia programs, University System study abroad, external
offerings, work, volunteer and service learning; and provide
this information to student via advising appointments, email,
telephone calls and/or faxes. This position reports directly to
the Director of Study Abroad, Office of International Education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Working with both incoming and outgoing exchange programs,
coordinating admission of exchange program students both at UGA
and at international partner universities, academic
advising/course registration, housing, faculty directors,
orientation programming and fee payments.
Developing hardcopy and electronic manuals, brochures,
applications, policy statements and other materials for student
and faculty orientation and services.
Administering support to selected populations of prospective
students, including incoming exchange students and incoming
(transient) study abroad students.
Supervise student support staff; plan, direct, and organize the
activities of STARS scholarship recipients and a graduate
assistant.
Updating program information each term, including destination
details for UGA programs and information gathering and reporting
to a variety of financial, academic, and student services
offices on campus and to the study abroad insurance carrier.
Delivering presentations, including faculty risk management
training and Options Abroad sessions; speak at Freshman
Orientation, Franklin College Orientation, Explore Georgia,
orientations for various UGA study abroad programs, student
organization information sessions, faculty information sessions,
and civic and community information sessions.
Identifying and contacting target groups for student recruitment
on and off campus; make contacts with targeted underrepresented
groups (major, rural, gender, minority, destination, etc.)
Advising students regarding study abroad options; directing
students to appropriate advisor or campus office when particular
circumstance cannot be handled directly in OIE.
Administer scholarship awards from Foundation/UGA Accounts (IEW,
Katherine Murphy, Elizabeth Schaefer, etc. STARS, etc.)
Preparing reports and assisting in accreditation reviews,
including the IIE Open Door Report and the UGA/USG statistics.
Maintaining student records on database and create and provide
reports. Provide contact point for enrolled and prospective
student information.
Attending, participating, and facilitating staff meetings,
relevant regional and national conferences, professional
development seminars, and various university and system
committees.
Serving as liaison with students abroad in case of international
emergencies, etc.
Helping coordinate and publicize major study abroad annual
events and training sessions which service faculty, staff, and
students.
Other duties as needed or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree, plus minimum two years experience in the field
of international education
Foreign language experience
Strong written and oral communication skills, including:
* Ability to prepare and present workshops for students and
faculty
* Ability to prepare promotional materials related to study
abroad
Proficiency in PC based software: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,
Excel, Access; Background in database management and web page
development preferred
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a
professional and collegial capacity with students,
administrators and faculty
Prior study or work abroad experience; previous participation in
semester or year-long study abroad program preferred; experience
with event planning helpful
