SUMMARY

This is advanced work in delivering merchandise, packages, supplies, and a variety of other items to various departments of the university or college campus and surrounding area.

Work involves sorting, loading, and unloading of materials and goods for campus departments. Work also involves the operation of heavy equipment in making deliveries. An employee in this class may exercise limited supervision over other delivery personnel engaged in delivering large loads or loads involving items requiring specialized handling. Overall supervision is received from a superior who checks work for adherence to established practices and schedules.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sorts, loads, and unloads materials and goods for campus departments and surrounding area.

Operates one and two ton van, one-fourth ton jeep, and other vehicles in making deliveries.

Secures proper authorized signature for goods delivered to campus departments.

Operates fork-lifts to unload incoming shipments from commercial vehicles.

Trains new delivery persons with respect to location of campus departments and dealing with campus personnel in situations requiring tactfulness and forbearance.

Receives outgoing shipments from campus departments and transports to Central Receiving to be prepared for out-shipments.

Prepares routine clerical records.

Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school; and some experience in light and heavy truck driving, powered lift operation, and in work providing familiarity with the location of campus organizations and offices; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the location of campus organizations and offices.

Ability to supervise the work of others.

Ability to work from oral and written instructions.

Ability to keep routine clerical records.

Ability to meet and deal with people in a pleasant and courteous manner.

Skill in operating trucks.
