SUMMARY

This is supervisory work in directing unskilled and semi-skilled workers in a variety of routine maintenance and laboring tasks.

Work involves responsibility for planning and supervising the work of a group of unskilled and semi-skilled workers in a variety of routine maintenance and laboring tasks. Work assignments are received in general outline, either verbally or in writing. Work is reviewed primarily through evaluation of results obtained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises a crew of laborers in moving furniture, transporting supplies and equipment, and raising structures; assures that crew are supplied with proper tools and materials.

From general instructions, assigns and supervises the work of labor crews engaged in a variety of tasks such as assembling and installing equipment and machinery and in repairing fences and related structures.

Plans and supervises the work of laborers in preparing for special campus events such as graduation and homecoming.

Supervises the maintenance of fire extinguishers; collects and stores surplus inventory items; supervises cleaning of shops, apartments, and related facilities.

Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school, supplemented by considerable experience in the type of work being supervised; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in building and grounds maintenance.

Knowledge of the operation and minor repair of light automotive equipment.

Knowledge of effective supervisory methods and techniques.

Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions in general labor and maintenance work.

Ability to plan, lay out, and supervise the work of laborers in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, department heads, and others contacted in the course of work.
