Assistant Manager Transit System Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible administrative and professional work in the
planning, development, implementation and maintenance of a
comprehensive driver training program for University bus
operators.
Work involves curriculum design, development and maintenance of
master lesson plan files, maintenance of training records,
delivery of driver training classes, and liaison with regulatory
agencies. In addition, may serve as Bus Operations Foreman,
perform dispatch duties and operate a bus as assigned or
necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and develops training programs for new and present bus
operators.
Designs and develops training aids and materials.
Conducts classroom driver training instruction and on-the-road
driver training.
Maintains training records on all assigned operators.
Maintains a comprehensive driver training resource library
including reference materials, technical and safety bulletins,
audio-visual equipment and materials, driver license
information, transportation regulations from state and federal
regulatory agencies, lesson plans, and so forth.
Conducts monthly driver safety meetings; produces a training
newsletter for distribution to assigned personnel.
Conducts unannounced check rides with bus operators to observe
compliance with operational standards.
Maintains liaison with pertinent regulatory agency personnel.
Serves as Bus Operation Foreman in his/her absence.
Performs dispatch duties and operates a bus as necessary.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university in an
appropriate curriculum and considerable experience related to
this class of work; or any equivalent combination of training
and experience.
Current Class III commercial driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of traffic and transportation regulations and
safe driving techniques.
Considerable knowledge of training methodology, techniques and
principles.
Considerable knowledge of the characteristics and operation of
the passenger vehicles used.
Ability to demonstrate, present and teach effectively before
groups.
Ability to operate audio-visual equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with supervisors, other university personnel and
representatives of pertinent state and federal agencies.
