How to Write an Internship Cover Letter
Letter Form:
- Return address( can be put in the letterhead)
- Inside address
- Greeting to principal/personnel director
- Format ideas: Attn.: and Re that directs the letter to
the principal/personnel director; highlight the reason for the
letter(Request for Interview: Math Position)
First Paragraph:
- Express interest in the position
- State your wish to be considered as an applicant
- State how you became aware of the position
About the Position:
- Research the school district
- State why you are interested in the particular school system and
the particular position
About Personal and Professional Strengths:
- Highlight your personal and professional strengths in the letter
- Emphasize strengths in your resume. Add details not in your
resume
- Include a statement of commitment and interest in teaching
- Use your resume, but consider adding information not on the
resume
Using Anecdotes:
- Use experiences that inform who you will be as a teacher
- Again, highlight your commitment to be a teacher
About Skills, Attributes, and Talents:
- State special skills that make you unique
- Describe attributes that reveal what will make you special as a
teacher
- If you have special talents, write about them and how they show
your strengths and special qualities
Request for Contact and Thank You (Usually last paragraph)
- State where you wish to be contacted
- Give phone numbers and best time to be reached
- Restate your interest in having an interview
- Thank the principal for taking time to read your application
- Be assertive, but not aggressive
