Animal Care Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is supervisory work in the care of animals being treated in
an animal clinic and the cleaning of cages and facilities.
Work involves responsibility for wrapping and sterilizing
instruments for animal surgery, for coordinating the assignment
of space for animals, and for supervising animal caretakers in
the care, feeding, cleaning, and housing of animals in a large
animal care facility. Work is performed under general direction
and is reviewed through observation of results obtained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigns and allocates space for a variety of animals in an
animal hospital.
Supervises employees in the care and feeding of animals and the
cleaning of related facilities.
Orders, receives, and dispenses food and supplies for
hospitalized animals.
Observes animals for medical reactions; takes appropriate steps
when atypical reactions are observed.
Maintains inventory and payroll records.
Interviews, selects, and trains animal caretakers.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school; and
experience in the care and special feeding of a wide variety of
small animals, including some supervisory experience; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the techniques involved in handling,
observing, and caring for small animals.
Some knowledge of the diet, physiology, and physical
characteristics of all types of small animals.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret written and oral
instructions.
Ability to perform clerical and related duties.
Skill in handling and caring for a variety of small animals. |
