Lab Animal Facilities Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is the fifth in a series of seven titles for positions
involving laboratory animal research (these include Research
Animal Resources positions within the college of Arts &
Sciences, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the
college of Veterinary Medicine). The Laboratory Animal Care
series is identified by a predominant amount of time spent on
the care of University-owned animals used in a research setting
or for a specific research project.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Overall facility supervision including scheduling, training new
hires, employee & facility records, and inventory.
Ensure care & quality of housing meet UGA Standard Operating
Procedure and federal regulations and guidelines.
Conduct environmental monitoring.
Assist Animal Resources Manager with acquisition of animals
(farm, lab).
Writing & updating Standard Operating Procedures.
Alert Animal Resources Manager of facility issues.
Interact with (mostly internal) clientele.
May euthanize animals & collect samples.
May perform on-call & weekend duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) -
Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certified; laboratory
animal technician and supervisory experience required.
Valid GA State Drivers License may be required. American
Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - Laboratory
Animal Technologist (LATG) certification required (current
registry).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to perform front-line supervision for multi-species
animal care in a research room(s) and/or facility(ies).
