Catering Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in
Retail Food Service. An employee allocated to this class of work
is responsible for managing all catering events, staff, and
students. Activities and decisions are varied in nature,
requiring independent action and judgment in solving common
problems. Unusual cases or questionable matters are resolved
with this position's supervisor or other appropriate positions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for managing multiple projects through use of
diverse resources
Maintain food and labor costs in accordance with unit and
department goals.
Utilize computer system for menu planning and forecasting.
Supervise staff and students.
Meet with customers, committees, administrators, faculty, and
staff to discuss events and menus.
Take orders for catering events and gift-o-grams.
Plan, shop for and execute theme events.
Deliver and set-up catering events.
Maintain good public relations to ensure business growth.
Work main events on campus.
Interviews, and hires student workers; resolves minor employee
grievances.
Schedules/assigns work schedules.
Sets job expectations.
Provides training for all food service production staff in the
quality preparation and presentation of food.
Reports to food operations manager
Completes a formal performance evaluation.
Coaches/counsels, directs/coordinates staff and students
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university including 2
years related catering work experience. Driver's license
required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work in a team environment with the staff of a
diverse university food services department
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and to
effectively present information
Ability to respond to questions from committees, administrators,
faculty, and staff
Ability to demonstrate creativity and originality in
presentation and service of food
Ability to develop ideas in executing theme events
Ability to use standard office equipment
Ability to operate lift trucks and vans
Ability to search for data or information in computer files,
generate standard reports developed by others, input or edit
information, and/or enter data into spreadsheets or programs
developed by others, and design and/or program spreadsheets or
custom reports
Ability to perform word processing duties
Ability to create graphics, multimedia, and/or desktop
publishing applications |
