International Scholar Advisor Duties
SUMMARY
50% of time advising and processing immigration related
requests, 25% supervision of junior advisor and graduate
assistant, 25% other administrative tasks including maintenance
of policies, conducting presentations and revising educational
materials, and others areas as required by Associate Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary advisor for J visa category utilized by exchange
visitors including research scholars, visiting faculty and short
term scholars and their dependents.
Plan and develop outreach and educational initiatives for J
scholar population. (approximately 400 per year plus dependents)
Coordinate and present federally mandated orientation programs
for scholars.
Develop processes that inform the documentation coordinator of
maintenance of J scholar record keeping including correspondence
schedules, formats and maintenance of I-1440 database.
Coordinate and develop instructional materials and application
materials. Present workshops and training to university
personnel who assist their departments with requests for hosting
J exchange visitors, including: CCRC, Veterinary Medicine,
Biological Sciences, Genetics, Food Science, etc.
Edit the section of the immigration services web site specific
to J scholars to ensure clarity of current Department of State
information and university policies.
Assist with policy development and implementation including:
editing of educational materials, brochures and handouts to
communicate policy and procedures to host departments.
Ensure University of Georgia compliance with SEVIS and maintain
a high degree of technical and regulatory knowledge specific to
J status holders as well as the other categories utilized by UGA
students, faculty, scholars and researchers.
Utilize computer skills using PC platform, word processing and
graphic software to maintain J records in the I-1440 database
and directly into the SEVIS federal database.
Monitor J exchange visitors compliance with federally mandated
insurance validity covering the period of stay in the US
including coverage for all dependents accompanying the J-l
scholar.
Serve as the primary liaison for J information for faculty,
human resources, payroll and other campus departments as well as
external parties including Department of State, Social Security
and US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Regularly assess J scholar services and develop initiatives to
improve efficiency and satisfaction based on responses.
Maintain Data and Statistics related to the J Exchange Visitor
Program. Responsible for preparing Annual Report on J Exchange
Visitors as mandated by the US Department of State. Assist in
the reporting of data in the annual Open Door survey. Update
cost of living and other related expenses to be used in the
issuing of DS 2019 forms.
Responsible for administering the International Student/Scholar
Compliance Fee for the J scholar population including:
invoicing, collecting funds, directing the deposit system and
insuring payment of the fee.
Report directly to the Associate Director of Immigration
Services for direction with regards to immigration services and
assist with the implementation of programs, policies and
objectives within the service area.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
2 -3 years of progressive experience working with federal
regulations in a university setting and
3-5 years of experience in a position requiring a high degree of
responsibility and analytical ability, or
BA/BS with 1 year experience with federal regulations in a
university setting.
Good computer skills using PC platform and Windows, Microsoft
Office software. I-1440 a plus.
Excellent analytical, communication and writing skills. |
