Materials Handler Duties
SUMMARY
Leads the work of others and participates in work related to
shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and
delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies.
Performs many of the duties of the lower levels, but is
distinguished in that they are responsible for leading the work
of other workers and overseeing work activities in addition to
carrying out materials handling duties. May be required to lift
heavy objects. Works with independence in carrying out duties
with limited supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates the activities of subordinates
Ensures accurate, up-to-date records of inventory and completes
necessary forms or paperwork for documentation
Oversees and participates in counting, weighing, and measuring
incoming and outgoing items to verify against bills of lading,
invoices, orders or other records
Fills orders and issues materials and supplies as per requests
Oversees and participates in ordering or purchasing a variety of
stock items
Determines method of shipment based on knowledge of shipping
procedures, routes and rates.
May utilize computerized or automated system to accomplish tasks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two years of shipping/receiving experience or any equivalent
combination of experience and /or education from which
comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Valid driver's license may be required in some instances.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of computerized or automated system operations
Knowledge of record keeping practices
Knowledge of safety practices
Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles
Skill in operating automotive, materials handling and office
equipment
Skill in lifting heavy packages and objects
