Manager Transit System Duties
SUMMARY
This is responsible managerial and administrative work in the
operation of the campus transit system and the repair and
maintenance of transit vehicles.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
the overall operation of the campus transit system and the
provision of maintenance and repair services for transit
vehicles. Work is performed under general direction of an
administrative superior with performance being measured by
reports and observation of operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, directs, and coordinates the operational activities of
the University transit system.
Plans, directs, and coordinates the operation of maintenance and
repairs programs for the transit system.
Directs and coordinates, through supervisory personnel,
activities of personnel engaged in the maintenance and operation
of transit vehicles.
Plans and administers a preventive maintenance and replacement
program for transit vehicles.
Prepares cost analysis and periodic management and operational
reports.
Receives and processes transit vehicle accident and damage
reports.
Prepares and directs in-service training programs for newly
employed personnel.
Reviews purchase requests for new replacement vehicles.
Prepares short and long range plans for transit system operation
including transit routing and scheduling.
Prepares purchase specification for transit vehicles.
Maintains inventory of transit vehicles.
Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university in an
appropriate curriculum and thorough experience related to this
class of work; or any equivalent combination of training or
experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of transit system management operations.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of transit
vehicular maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of the principles of organization and administration.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with University officials and the general public.
