Laundry Worker Duties
SUMMARY
This is routine manual work in the operation of laundering
equipment and extractors.
Work involves a variety of miscellaneous tasks to assure that
soiled laundry will be cleaned and returned in a sanitary
condition. The working environment is both hot and moist.
General supervision is received from a superior who checks the
work by observation of results obtained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives and sorts cloths and linens according to fiber, color,
and soiled condition.
Operates washers and dryers in accordance with safety standards.
Supplies recommended quantities of detergents and bleaches.
Folds, wraps or places on hangers, completed laundry.
Maintains laundry room and equipment in a clean and orderly
manner.
Makes minor repairs to items, i.e., replace buttons, mend torn
clothes and linens.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the
completion of the eighth grade.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of standard laundry equipment methods and
equipment.
Some knowledge of the use and care of standard commercial
washing machine equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate or readily learn to operate washers and
extractors.
Skill in the operation of laundry equipment.
