Food Service Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is food service work assisting in the supervision of a
campus cafeteria, coffee shop, and/or dining room.
The major responsibility in this area of work is assisting a
food service supervisor or other supervisors in the assignment
of work; training and supervision of a number of food service
workers to insure prompt, pleasant, and efficient service to
customers. Employees are responsible for the appearance and
cleanliness of their food service unit. Work is performed under
the general supervision of an administrative superior and is
evaluated by observation and in terms of customer reaction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in supervising the operation of a dining room or food
service unit, or supervises the operation of a smaller unit.
Assists in planning work schedules and assigning food service
personnel duties.
Assists in training and supervising personnel in preparing
meals, arranging foods, and serving customers.
May participate in the cooking and serving of food.
Assists in preparation of facilities and serving of foods for
special wants such as buffets.
Supervises cleaning of facilities and equipment; inspects dining
rooms and equipment for cleanliness.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school and some experience in a
food service unit including some supervisory work or any
equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of foods and their preparation and of the use and care
of dishes, implements, and kitchen utensils.
Knowledge of health hazards relating to food preparation and
service, and of effective precautionary measures.
Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with employees and patrons of the food service
unit.
