This is technical and analytical work performing standardized test and examinations in an assigned clinical laboratory.

Work involves performing a variety of standard serological, bacteriological, hematological, or biochemical laboratory examinations and tests. Work requires independent performance of assigned tasks within established methods and procedures. Work is reviewed through observation of performance and results of work.


Performs a variety of bacteriological examinations for the presence of various diseases and pathologic conditions.

Prepares a variety of culture media for the development and identification of organism.

Incubates and cultures bacteria; stains slides; examines microscopically and reports findings.

Makes chemical analysis of blood to determine the quantitative presence of chemical components.

Makes chemical analysis of urine specimens and does special procedures as required.

Obtains blood samples by venipuncture and fingerstick.

Performs hematological examination such as making complete blood counts, smears for differential count, blood grouping, determining sedimentation rates, and bleeding and clotting time.

Prepares technical reports including procedures and results of laboratory tests and examinations.

Performs related work as required.

A Bachelor degree with an appropriate number of quarter hours in a relevant science to be ASCP eligible for the appropriate categorical exam when experience criteria is met plus an approved Clinical Laboratory Technologists exam.

Approved Clinical Laboratory Technologist exam.

Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology.

Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as related to medical technology.

Ability to perform assigned tasks according to exactly prescribed procedures and to make accurate observations and records of test results.
