Garage Attendant Duties
SUMMARY
This is manual and clerical work in the servicing of automotive
equipment. Work involves automotive refueling, inspection of
fluid levels, and the preparation of issue tickets.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
servicing and cleaning automotive equipment by filling fuel
tanks, observing fluid levels, and checking and filling cooling
systems. Work may also include the performance of minor
preventive maintenance such as the replacement of oil and air
filters. Work is performed under general supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates a maintenance unit service station.
Inspects vehicles for preventive maintenance and current safety
stickers.
Checks fluid levels and prepares issue tickets.
Maintains records of issuance and inventory.
Receives bulk fuel issues.
Initiates requisitions as required.
Posts mileage for vehicles that receive preventive maintenance.
Maintains preventive maintenance records.
Operates and maintains an automotive wash system.
Records the number of vehicles washed.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school and some experience
related to this class of work; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of store keeping and inventory methods.
Some knowledge of automotive maintenance.
Some knowledge of clerical procedures.
Knowledge of the safety precautions, standards, and laws
pertaining to petroleum product storage and distribution.
Ability to perform routine clerical work.
Ability to make elementary calculations.
Ability to perform manual work.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to serve customers in a pleasant and courteous manner.
