Origin: Kent was first mentioned as a
county in 1642, when the Governor and Council
appointed commissioners for the Isle and County
of Kent. The County was named for the county of
the same name bordering the English Channel in
the southeast of England.

United States. It has 279.4 sq. miles in land
area and a population density of 71.2 per square
mile. In the last three decades of the 1900s its
population grew by 18.9%. On the 2000 census
form, 98.8% of the population reported only one
race, with 17.4% of these reporting
African-American. The population of this county
is 2.8% Hispanic (of any race). The average
household size is 2.33 persons compared to an
average family size of 2.81 persons.
In 2005 health care and social assistance was
the largest of 20 major sectors. It had an
average wage per job of $33,102. Per capita
income grew by 21.2% between 1994 and 2004
(adjusted for inflation). |
