Assistant Forest Resources Manager Duties
SUMMARY
This is professional, technical and supervisory work in the
multiple use management of institutional forest lands and
related facilities utilized in teaching, research, and service
programs.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
assisting in the implementation of a wide variety of research
and teaching projects. Work involves assisting in the planning,
development, implementation, and management of land use
programs.
Work is performed under general direction of an administrative
superior and is reviewed through conferences and the observation
of results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in planning, and directing forest resources management
programs including, but not limited to: forest inventories,
timber harvesting, timber stand improvement, reforestation, fire
protection and suppression, insect and disease protection,
recreation development, hydrology and watershed management, and
other related resource utilization programs.
Plans and directs road and bridge construction and maintenance.
Maintains buildings, equipment, vehicles, and other facilities.
Inspects timber harvest operations.
Trains technical and maintenance staff.
Assists in the implementation and development of research and
teaching projects on the forest.
Assists in the planning, implementation, and coordination of
various land use programs.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
degree in forestry and experience in multiple use forest
resource management and in the operation and maintenance of
equipment and vehicles utilized in forestry work; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of multiple use forest resource
management protection and utilization.
Considerable knowledge of road, bridge, and building
construction and maintenance.
Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
Knowledge of wildlife management.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with faculty, staff, and fellow employees. |
