Creamery Supervisor Duties
SUMMARY
This is supervisory work in the operation of a creamery engaged
in the purchasing, processing, pasteurizing, and packaging of
milk and other creamery products.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for
supervising the processing of milk and milk products and
overseeing the operating, assembling, and disassembling of
creamery equipment, and other duties necessary to process
creamery products. Work is performed with considerable
independence, but is subject to periodic inspection for
sanitation and cleanliness by an academic supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Determines amount of products to process, and processing
schedule.
Supervises employees who package, pasteurize, and process milk
and other creamery products by use of machinery; draw milk from
pasteurizing tanks; and wish and sterilize milk cans and
containers.
Inspects creamery; maintains sanitary conditions in and around
processing area.
Supervises operators of pure-pak machines, separators,
clarifiers, pasteurizers, homogenizers, sanitizer, and other
creamery equipment.
Supervises the maintenance of all creamery equipment.
Records operations data and figures daily production records.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school; and
considerable experience in the operation of a creamery,
including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination
of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and operation
of creamery equipment and sanitation methods.
Considerable knowledge of the maintenance requirements of
creamery equipment.
Ability to operate all creamery equipment.
Ability to keep production records.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
