Housekeeper Duties
SUMMARY
Performs supervisory work in the provision of linen services and
cleaning of institution buildings and facilities.
Work involves responsibility for assisting in the planning, and
for directing, assigning, and supervising the work of a large
staff in the cleaning of rooms in buildings and facilities, and
the provision of linen services. This individual conducts
inspections of work to insure quality and conformity to
requirements. Work also includes maintaining records and
preparing reports, hiring employees, and making recommendations
for terminations. Work is performed under general administrative
supervision. Work assignments are received through conferences,
oral request, and by written memoranda. Work is reviewed by
observation of results and comments of users of housekeeping
services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, directs, and supervises the work of a group of custodians
in the cleaning of buildings and facilities and provision of
linen services.
Inspects rooms, halls, and laundry room to insure proper
cleaning and laundering.
Maintains simple records on employees' time and linen used.
Interviews and hires new domestic workers; recommends
terminations.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school; and some supervisory
housekeeping experience; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and
practices used in cleaning of buildings and appurtenances.
Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory methods and
techniques.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with
subordinates, superiors, and other employees.
Ability to maintain records and to prepare and submit reports. |
