Business Manager Duties
SUMMARY
Assists in managing & controlling accounting, budgeting,
auditing and other financial or related functions to ensure the
financial integrity of a major work unit. Incumbents also
coordinate and control personnel and operational matters, but
this aspect does not account for a substantial portion of the
job responsibilities. Financial management has the greatest
emphasis and is the overriding major function.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises personnel admin, training & recruitment;
Assists in preparation of budget;
Supervises preparation & processing of budget amendments;
Supervises inventory control, accounting functions & leave
records;
Advises faculty & staff on changes in UGA P&P;
Performs duties related to purchasing, personnel records,
personnel actions, payroll & affirmative action; develops
channels for routing paperwork;
Supervises composition of correspondence for Dean's signature;
Establishes and revises work methods & procedures;
Develops reports relating to fiscal affairs;
Develops & changes business forms;
Prepares performance evaluations;
Coordinates publications & promotional material;
May serve as executive assistant to Dean;
Liaison between Dean's office & departments within school in of
fiscal affairs or SOP's;
Reviews organization & staffing patterns to assure that
available manpower and fiscal resources are effectively
utilized;
Meets as directed with individual department heads to discuss
operational problems and to explain P&P;
May represent Dean in meetings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a
related discipline with seven years of related experience
required; or any equivalent combination of education, training,
and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of management and supervision practices and
techniques;
Knowledge of accounting and budgetary theory, principles and
practices;
Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining
to departmental budgets and accounting practices;
Skill in applying accounting and financial management
principles;
Ability to communicate effectively.
