Environmental Safety Coordinator Duties
SUMMARY
Performs responsible professional, administrative and technical
work in the coordination of specific programs and services
provided by the University Environmental Safety Services
Department.
This individual is responsible for coordination of operational
activities, as well as participating in the provision of
specialized services necessary for the accomplishment of the
Environmental Safety Services Department's mission at the
University. Work is performed under the general direction of an
administrative superior and is reviewed through observation of
results.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates the technical and operational details of an assigned
section and specialty within the Environmental Safety Services
Department.
Coordinates activities and communications between the
University's Environmental Safety Specialists and applicable
regulatory agencies.
Supervises the work activities of a team of Environmental Safety
Specialists.
Develops and implements a specialized environmental and/or
safety program in their assigned specialty and service area.
Provides advice and consultation to faculty in their safety
and/or environmental specialty.
Evaluates survey reports and makes decisions and recommendations
for action to correct unsafe conditions and/or violations of
University policies and/or state and federal environmental or
safety laws.
Cooperates with faculty and staff in the development and
implementation of environmental and safety programs and services
provided by the Environmental Safety Services Department.
Provides teaching, consultation, inspection and testing services
in their assigned specialty and service field.
Performs services in his/her assigned specialty.
Performs work related to his/her assigned specialty as requested
by the manager of Environmental Safety Services.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
degree in health physics, industrial hygiene, physical or
biological science, environmental health science, or a closely
related field. Masters and/or certification in environmental
specialty area preferred; or any equivalent combination of
training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles, regulations, practices,
and methods of environmental safety operations.
Thorough knowledge of an assigned environmental specialty and
service area.
Knowledge of modern teaching and training methods and ability to
conduct training programs.
Ability to supervise the work of other environmental safety
personnel.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to wear a respirator and perform the physical activities
of lifting and climbing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with campus personnel and outside representatives
of applicable regulatory agencies. |
