Art Coordinator Duties
SUMMARY
This is supervisory artistic work in the preparation and
development of artwork for finished publication.
Work involves directing the activities of subordinate personnel
engaged in the design, layout, and creation of original artwork
for finished publications, displays, and related media. Work is
performed under general direction of an administrative superior
and is reviewed by observation of results obtained.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises other artists in the preparation and development of
artwork from the author's concept to the finished publication.
Coordinates complete book layouts including manuscripts and
illustrations.
Confers with authors and other users on job requests.
Prepares specifications; receives and evaluates bids from
printers.
Supervises and schedules job requests for a wide range of
artwork including posters, illustrations to campaigns,
brochures, books, flip charts, slides, and related media.
Checks and evaluates proofs.
Performs artwork including sketches, roughs, and mechanicals.
Coordinates the production of artwork with university units and
commercial printers.
Maintains quality control and reviews completed artwork.
Determines job costs, methods, and materials.
Orders and maintains supplies and equipment.
Trains personnel and prepares various operating reports.
Maintains appropriate records.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major
course work in art; and considerable experience in commercial or
graphic artwork including some supervisory experience or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of art and artwork production including
printing and design.
Thorough knowledge of art media, supplies, and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of layout and production.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Ability to plan and schedule art productions.
Ability to produce finished artwork. |
