Principal Semiconductor Technician Duties and Responsibilities
Purpose of Classification:
The
semiconductor process technician will support the manufacture of
thin film transistor backplanes and the resultant devices. This role
supports the process engineering function. Set-up semiconductor
tools and processes for efficient operation of the manufacturing
process. Maintain data integrity for standard and experimental lots.
Resolve process problems and improve yield via standard problem
solving techniques. Sets up processing equipment and performs minor
adjustments to equipment within guidelines. Designs and executes
test runs and disseminates results in order to facilitate
engineering designs. Works under general supervision. Typically
reports to a supervisor or manager.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is
third in a series of three classifications and is distinguished in
that it relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish
goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Examples of Duties:
- Performs physical set-up (installation, facilitization,
commissioning) of semiconductor processing equipment for thin
film transistor (TFT) array fabrication on glass and flexible
substrates.
- Provides technical assistance to process development and
engineering personnel as required.
- Works with process engineers to perform technical tests and
experiments for process development, qualification, monitoring
and process improvement in the TFT fabrication area.
- Processes test runs and prepares records, charts and graphs
of results for presentation to engineering to identify yield
problems or test new products, new processes and/or new
materials.
- Maintains equipment and/or works with internal and external
personnel to support efficient and reliable tool operation.
- Designs, develops, implements, tests, documents and
maintains scientific and engineering process applications.
- Analyzes project specifications and creates project
sub-tasks and implementation schedules.
- Reviews, modifies and rewrites existing processes to
optimize it or adapt it to fit new requirements.
- Maintains equipment and/or works with internal and external
personnel to support efficient and reliable tool operation.
- Monitors, Audits, and provides guidance to line operators.
- Researches, evaluates, and implements third-party products
and vendor applications.
- Coordinates the activities of others; trains and instructs
other personnel; leads, directs, checks and integrates the work
of others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of semiconductor processes including PECVD,
lithography, etch, test.
- Knowledge of word process and spread sheet software.
- Knowledge of with statistical process control.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering practices and design
methodologies.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, developments and
techniques used in systems analysis and applications
programming.
- Skill in communication verbally and in writing.
- Skill in presenting to small groups.
- Skill in communicating technical ideas and designs in a
positive and professional manner.
- Skill in performing independent scientific research.
- Skill in mentoring and leading programming staff.
- Skill in working effectively in a team environment.
- Skill in working with systems, identifying process
innovation opportunities and define necessary. improvements,
manage change, and lead cross functional teams to implement
solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree in related field and eight (8) years of related
experience in thin film transistor or semiconductor fabrication in a
manufacturing or pilot line production environment; OR, Any
equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which
comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
