Editor Columns Duties
SUMMARY
This position is in charge of editing Columns, the weekly
faculty-staff newspaper at the university.
This position coordinates publication efforts through the
editing, writing, indexing, and producing of manuals,
manuscripts, journals, which may include on-line or web
based materials. It also requires responsibility for
maintaining a balance of content which understands and
communicates the mission of the organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan editorial content of Columns, short-term and long-range
Edit Columns copy for content and style
Write copy for Columns: standing departments, features, news
Proof Columns pages in final layout
Serve as liaison to Columns Forum committee
Prepare calendar copy for UGA Guide in Columns
Update UGA Style Guide annually
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or related field
is recquired. Also a minimum of 3 years experience in
editing, journalism or editorial research is needed.

Excellent command of language;
Strong writing skills;
Ability to work under pressure with deadlines;
Ability to understand target audience;
Skill in diplomacy and toughness;
Imagination and good visual sense;
Ability to give clear, accurate instructions.
