Lab Research Technician Duties
SUMMARY
This is the second in a series of six titles for positions
involving the performance and management of positions in a
scientific laboratory. The Laboratory family series is
identified by a predominant amount of time spent on bench work.
These typical duties include running laboratory protocols, data
collection and recording (performing sample analysis for
external clients, maintaining laboratory equipment, calibrating
laboratory instruments), data management, data analysis and /or
assist with student labs in a "production" lab environment.
Laboratory Technician positions are not connected to specific
research and do not require interpretation of results.
Therefore, Laboratory Technician II and Laboratory Technician
III are distinct and separate titles compared to Research
Technician II and Research Technician III.
The Laboratory/Research Technician I follows narrowly defined,
standard guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Laboratory Application:
Produces and records data
May prepare media, reagents, clean glassware & laboratories.
May perform autoclaving & decontaminate laboratory.
May stock solutions.
May maintain equipment usage & repair records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Some college and no experience required.
Area-specific certification may be required and training will be
provided as appropriate (i.e. UGA HazMat training).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have manual dexterity.
Applies basic knowledge of field and laboratory methods,
materials & techniques; and principles of physical/biological
sciences. |
