Concrete Mason Duties
SUMMARY
This is manual work at the journeyman level in the concrete
construction trade.
Work involves the building and repair of structures of brick,
tile, stone, and similar materials. Work involves supervision of
helpers in the performance of trade tasks. Written and oral
assignments are received from a supervisor who inspects
completed work for compliance with specifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assembles necessary tools, equipment, and manpower required to
perform concrete construction work.
Conducts necessary preparations for the installation of concrete
forms including the removal of obstacles, excavation, and
filling.
Constructs forms and bracings according to elevation points and
design configuration.
Installs steel and/or wire reinforcing and expansion joints.
Supervises concrete placement and pouring.
Supervises helpers and participates in concrete placement,
finishing, and scoring.
Maintains adequate barricades and traffic control devices to
protect uncured concrete.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school and
experience at the journeyman level in concrete construction; or
any equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and
techniques used in cement construction trades.
Ability to supervise the work of skilled and semi-skilled
helpers engaged in concrete construction trades.
Ability to read and understand construction plans, sketches, and
visual instructions, elevations, and field layout.
