Plasterer Duties
SUMMARY
This is plastering work at the journeyman level.
Work involves responsibility for performing skilled plastering
work in accordance with standard trade practices. Assignments
are usually received orally, but may be written and accompanied
by sketches or blue prints. Work is performed independently and
is subject to review for the quality of final results and the
speed of completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs lath work necessary to patch holes in walls and
ceilings.
Mixes and matches plaster and stucco.
Plasters newly constructed buildings, walls, and ceilings on
metal and wood lath, tile, and brick, using two and three coat
techniques.
Patches old plaster, removes loose plaster, cuts out cracks, and
applies new plaster.
Completes plaster work with trowel or sand finishers.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard vocational or high school and some
experience as a journeyman plasterer; or any equivalent
combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials,
methods, and equipment of the plastering trade.
Considerable knowledge of the hazards and precautionary measures
of the trade.
Ability to assist in making estimates of time and materials
cost.
Ability to understand and transmit oral and written
instructions.
Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, or from other difficult
positions.
Skill in the use of the tools and materials of the plastering
trade.
