Project Superintendent Duties
SUMMARY
Performs administrative and supervisory work in overseeing the
work performed on a variety of repair, alteration, and
construction jobs and related structural projects.
This individual is responsible for planning and coordinating the
repair, alteration, and construction of one or more projects
under operation at the same time involving groups of skilled
journeymen, trades helpers, and laborers in a variety of trades.
Work involves the continuous checking of plans and
specifications, determining that all needed materials and
supplies get to the proper site, and for frequent visits to the
site to assure that plans are being followed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Studies project plans, drawings, and specifications; confers
with division designers and superiors to adjust discrepancies
and clarify details.
Develops project operational plans; arranges for, schedules, and
coordinates the assignments of personnel to the project
according to the needed skills.
Visits projects frequently and determines that plans are being
followed and efficient productive work is being accomplished;
determines that the necessary safety precautions are being
followed.
Prepares reports and maintains required records
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school and
considerable experience supervising construction work; or any
equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices
of building repair, alteration, and construction.
Thorough knowledge of the basic principles, techniques, and
practices of the various trade crafts.
Ability to follow instructions and to interpret and work from
drawings, blue prints, and other specifications.
Ability to plan, supervise, and inspect the work of several
different crafts of journeymen.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with division and university personnel.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
