Utility Worker Duties
SUMMARY
This is manual work involving unskilled and limited semi-skilled
duties.
Work involves the performance of work of a heavy nature, which
does not require a high degree of manipulative skill; however,
as work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to
somewhat more difficult tasks of a limited semi-skilled nature.
Work is usually closely supervised, and the employee received
specific work instructions at the beginning of each new job;
however, constant supervision is not necessary for routine and
repetitive tasks which can be carried on without difficulty once
they are learned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Loads and unload furniture and freight from trucks; unpacks and
arranges new furniture in buildings; sets up and takes down
bleachers, folding chairs, and other furniture and equipment for
student registrations, meetings, and other events.
Provides routine laboring tasks for semi-skilled and skilled
workers such as setting up scaffolds, cleaning work tools, and
running errands.
Does unskilled laboring work on a farm such as repairing fences,
gathering crops, feeding cattle, cleaning barns, and doing rough
land preparation and crop cultivation.
Cleans and sweeps sidewalks, gutters, and steps; spreads sand
and cinders on icy walks and steps.
Rakes and loads grass and brush; mows lawns and cleans grounds;
waters plants and assists in the care of shrubs, flowers, and
grass.
Works on a trash collection truck loading and unloading trash
and wastes; washes trucks and may assist in performing
maintenance tasks.
Digs ditches; pours concrete; repairs sidewalks.
Washes walls and ceilings, moves furniture and equipment, and
performs related custodial work.
Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Some experience in performing heavy manual work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written
instructions.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods,
often under adverse climatic conditions.
