HVAC Service Worker Duties and Responsibilities
Purpose of Classification:
Repairs
and maintains heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC)
equipment such as evaporative coolers, air conditioning window
units, and environmental control systems.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is
first in a series of five classifications and is distinguished from
others by assisting in the repair and maintenance of environmental
control systems.
Examples of Duties:
- Provides general maintenance and repair work on
refrigeration, heating, and ventilating equipment, such as air
conditioning units, evaporative coolers, ice making equipment,
pumps, gas furnaces, compressors, and electric motors.
- Provides preventive maintenance activities; diagnoses
equipment malfunctions and operating efficiency of mechanical
equipment.
- Lubricates all moving parts and bearings of mechanical
equipment.
- Cleans and services electrical controls, condensers, and
filters when necessary.
- Maintains and cleans swimming pool and water fountain
equipment by replacing filters, cleaning filters, lubricating,
and oiling pumps.
- Cleans cooling towers.
- Tests water samples and checks chemicals in swimming pools.
- Performs work on minor construction or remodeling, which
includes installing evaporative coolers, fan coil units, pumps,
exhaust fans, and air compressors.
- Assists and receives training in the repair and maintenance
of a wide variety of refrigeration, heating, and ventilating
equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques of the HVAC
trade.
- Skill in applying HVAC repair and maintenance techniques.
- Skill in both verbal and written communication.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two
years of HVAC experience; OR, Completion of a one-year training
program in the repair and maintenance of air conditioning equipment
AND one year of HVAC experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of
education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills
and abilities have been achieved. Possession of a current Arizona
driver's license upon employment. Some Positions may require
possession of, or ability to obtain a Chloroflourocarbons
Certification upon employment.
